ABOUT
RENFREW
COMMUNITY
COUNCIL
Our goal is simple. To represent the people of Renfrew and make sure your voice is heard. We do that by working openly, building partnerships, and focusing
on practical solutions that matter to our town.
Who are we?
Renfrew Community Council is a local group run by volunteers. We help residents have a direct voice in decisions that affect Renfrew. It is the most local level of democratic representation in Scotland. Run by local people. Open to the public. Rooted in our town.
Community Councils exist to make sure local views are heard by the council, public services, and anyone making decisions about the area. But we do more than talk. We bring people together, turn concerns into action, and help make practical improvements to the place we live.
What do we do?
Renfrew Community Council focuses on real issues and real outcomes. That includes:
-
raising local concerns and pushing for change
-
gathering and representing community views
-
working with the council, public bodies, and local groups
-
supporting or delivering small projects that improve everyday life
-
helping organise events, consultations, and community conversations
-
protecting what makes Renfrew feel like home
We do this by sharing responsibility across the Council, so no one person is carrying everything.
Some members focus on planning and place, making sure community views are heard on developments and changes to our town. Others work on partnerships and wellbeing, linking Renfrew with local services, schools, health groups, and support organisations.
We also have members focused on events, history, and culture, helping bring people together and celebrate what makes Renfrew what it is. Our digital and community engagement work keeps residents informed, makes meetings accessible, and creates simple ways for people to have their say.
Office bearers support the work by keeping things organised, transparent, and moving forward. They coordinate rather than control, making sure decisions are made openly and agreed by the full Council.
Sometimes that means a bigger campaign. More often, it’s small practical wins that come from people
working together and sticking with things.
Who is it for?
Community Councils are made up of people who
-
care about their area
-
want to improve things locally
-
are willing to listen as well as speak
-
are prepared to put time into getting things done
You don’t need experience. You just need to care about your community and be willing to contribute.
What does being a Community Councillor mean?
Being a Community Councillor is an active role, not a title. It means:
-
sharing responsibility for how the Council works
-
taking part in discussions and decisions
-
helping with agreed tasks between meetings
-
acting in the interests of the whole community
Not everyone leads. Not everyone does the same thing. But everyone contributes.
