Your Community Council in Action: What We Covered and What’s Next

Tuesday 3 February 2026 | Trinity High School
Thanks to everyone who came along to our February meeting, including residents and visiting speakers.
This short update is to keep people informed quickly, while the formal minutes go through the normal approval process and are then published.
What we covered
At this meeting we focused on three things: community safety, local updates and planning, and practical community activity coming up in the next few weeks.
1) Community safety and road concerns
We discussed road safety issues raised by residents, including speeding and red-light running on Kings Inch Road, plus concerns about driving behaviour around Moorpark Square. Police Scotland shared an update for the Renfrew area and noted the importance of continued reporting, as complaint volume helps build the case for action.
On Kings Inch Road specifically, we were advised that a survey is expected once Scottish Water works are complete and outside school holidays. It was also noted that there is currently insufficient data to support fixed speed cameras, which is why reporting incidents matters.
2) Local councillor updates and access issues
We heard updates from local councillors, including ongoing transport and access issues and the impact of Renfrew Bridge closures. We agreed to follow up concerns about the reliability of closures with the relevant partners.
3) Planning and funding
We discussed a planning application at Arkleston Road (David Lloyd site), reference 25/0706/PP, relating to proposed self-storage containers and associated works. Consultation was open until 4 February 2026 and it was requested that the application be removed from delegated authority and considered by the Planning and Climate Change Board.
We also shared an update on Renfrew Local Partnership funding. Applications for 2026/27 are open, with a deadline of Sunday 15 March 2026 (11:59pm) and decisions expected in May. Local groups delivering services or events in Renfrew are encouraged to apply if their work aligns with the Local Partnership priorities.
What we agreed and what happens next
A key part of the meeting was agreeing a set of practical next steps, with named owners and clear dates.
Community events and projects
Parish Church Clean Up
Saturday 15 February, 11:00am
Volunteer-led clean-up with Council support. We will continue promoting the event and confirming volunteer numbers.
Gala Day planning
A planning meeting is set for 16 February.
We will share a public call-out and gather ideas on what residents want to see from us on Gala Day, then bring that feedback to the next meeting.
Easter Egg Hunt
Sunday 5 April at Robertson Park
We will organise donations and logistics, and we will run this in an allergy-aware way using plastic eggs with an exchange for a suitable Easter egg.
Renfrew’s Best Garden competition (returning)
We agreed to bring this back with a £100 prize, and to seek local donations or sponsorship to support it. Details will be shared through RCC channels as plans are confirmed.
Local Partnership proposal
We agreed to submit an alternative proposal to the Chair of the Local Partnership to use funding for a large inflatable course based at Renfrew Baths, so Renfrew has a dedicated course available more often.
How residents can help right now
If you want to support the things discussed at this meeting, here are realistic next steps:
Come along to the Parish Church Clean Up on 15 February (11:00am) if you can spare even a short time.
Share Gala Day ideas when our public call-out goes up, so we can reflect what residents actually want to see.
If you’ve seen persistent road safety problems, keep reporting incidents so the evidence base is stronger for action.
If you’re part of a local group, consider Renfrew Local Partnership funding before the 15 March 2026 deadline.
Next meeting
Our next public meeting is: Tuesday 3 March 2026. Residents are welcome.
Note on minutes
This post is a quick, plain-English update to keep people informed. The formal minutes follow the standard process and will be published after approval at a subsequent meeting.
If you want, I can also turn this into:
a shorter Facebook post version, and
a press-style summary with a quote (in RCC’s tone and rules).
