Christmas Display Competition. Renfrew at its best.

One of the nicest things we’ve done this winter was our Christmas Display Competition.

The idea was simple. Give people a reason to step in, brighten their street, and bring a bit of joy to neighbours during the darker months. What we didn’t expect was just how much effort people would put in across the town.

From windows and gardens to full house displays, the standard was brilliant. Walking around Renfrew in December, you could feel the pride people have in where they live.

We’re delighted to say this year’s winner was Jemma Mack.

Jemma’s display stood out for the care, creativity and sheer festive spirit behind it. It brought smiles to people passing by and really lifted the feel of the street. A well deserved win.

What happened next made it even more special.

After receiving the prize, Jemma chose to donate the full amount to Renfrewshire Food Bank. That was entirely her decision, and it says a lot about the kind of community Renfrew is.

The competition was never just about lights or decorations. It was about connection. About people doing something positive together. Jemma’s choice reflected that perfectly.

As we move into January, it’s worth remembering that this can be one of the toughest times of the year for many families. It’s also when food banks and local charities often feel the strain most, once the Christmas period has passed.

There’s no pressure and no expectation. But if you’re able to donate time, food, or a small amount during the winter months, it really does make a difference.

Thank you to everyone who took part, shared photos, voted, or simply made the effort to brighten the town. Renfrew looked better because of you.
