What follows is a plain-English summary of our January meeting at Trinity High School. What we talked about, why it matters, and what we’re doing next.
These are not the formal minutes. The official, approved minutes will be published after our February meeting, as part of our normal process.
Everyday issues that matter
Speeding and road safety
Concerns about speeding on Kings Inch Road were raised again. We’ve been advised that this needs to be logged directly with the Renfrewshire Council’s Roads team rather than the police, so that’s what we’re doing.
Grit bins and winter problems
We also talked about ongoing issues with grit bins, particularly in Kirklandneuk. This is frustrating, and we get why.
We’re now following this up with Renfrewshire Council Officers and we’ve also shared a map of Council-managed grit bins on the Renfrew Community Group so residents can find the closest one to them.
Need a refill, repair, or a new grit bin? You can report it directly to Renfrewshire Council here:
New ideas for the town (early stage)
We agreed in principle to take forward three early-stage project ideas. None of these are promises yet. They are ideas we believe are worth developing carefully and openly.
Renfrew Community Lottery
This is a proposal for a simple, local monthly lottery, run under the Small Society Lottery rules.
Residents would pay £5 per month.
50% goes back out as prizes
50% stays in Renfrew to support community projects and small improvements (via a Renfrew Community Fund)
The aim is to create a sustainable local funding stream, shaped by residents, with all spending agreed publicly and reported transparently.
Funky Renfrew merchandise
This is a community-led merchandise idea. Things like tote bags, T-shirts or mugs would be designed locally and sold at events, pop-ups or online.
The goal isn’t mass production or profit for profit’s sake. Any surplus would go back into a Renfrew Community Fund to support events, groups and small local projects.
It’s about local pride, supporting creative input, and testing whether a modest, repeatable income stream is possible without overloading volunteers.
Renfrew Community Sports Day
This is a proposal for a free, inclusive one-day sports and activity event in Renfrew. The focus is participation, not competition.
Think:
Taster sessions run by local sports clubs
Family games and low-pressure activities
Something visible that brings people together
It would rely on partnerships with clubs, schools and organisations, and would only proceed if funding and capacity stack up. The aim is a positive, welcoming day that could become annual but only if it’s realistic to deliver.
Which of these ideas sounds most interesting to you right now?

Parish Church clean-up: February
We’ve had approval to carry out a volunteer clean-up around the Parish Church, with Renfrewshire Council providing some equipment. However, we'd welcome any volunteers bringing there own gardening equipment.
🗓 Confirmed date: 15 February
We also discussed the condition of the church railings, which will need professional input. We’re looking at possible support routes.
Looking ahead and bringing more people in
We’ve added forward planning as a standing agenda item. That’s about being more proactive and not just reacting when problems land.
We also talked openly about growing the Community Council. This is about making sure Renfrew is properly represented and that the workload doesn’t fall on the same few people. Renfrew works best when responsibility is shared.

We ended the meeting by thanking members who helped with:
Foodbank and Toybank Donations
The Christmas Display Competition
Our next meeting is Tuesday 3 February at 7pm in Trinity High School.
Meetings are open to the public. If something here matters to you or if you want to help with any of the projects above come along, send us a message, or tell us what you think.
